Moving to Alpine

I’ve hosted my site on Linode for years at this point and haven’t updated Ubuntu from 18.04 in all that time. Since I’m hosting very small simple apps I decided to give Alpine Linux a try since all I need is something docker containers.

A friend of mine also convinced me to give Ansible a go rather than setting it all up manually which is probably a good idea since it gives me a way to deploy things quickly on another host if I want to.

Some of my apps can also be hosted on my home server now that I have a decent internet connection, the only thing that truly needs the VPS is my site now since I don’t want that pointed at my home IP (though I could host it locally and just use the VPS as a VPN tunnel to it on an isolated VM.)
